I was commissioned to make these films by the regional screen agency with Heritage Lottery funding. They are primarily made for public display in cinemas, stadiums and other large venues. My aim in making these films was to develop a style that questioned the 'traditional' role and presentation modes of archive film - moving away from mere historical illustration towards developing a popular artform - in the same way that other artists may use found objects in their art, so I have been using 'found film', snippets of personal memories and records that with painstaking effort can reach out from the past and inspire audiences with the apparent beauty, poignancy and meaning of ordinary memories.
